Pace Prints Absorbs Brand X in Strategic Consolidation
The Editors ·
Pace Prints has acquired Brand X Editions, merging two significant entities within the American printmaking sector under a single organizational structure. The acquisition follows a prolonged history of collaboration between the firms, which will now operate under one umbrella while maintaining their distinct identities. Although Brand X Editions is being folded into Pace Prints, both companies will continue to run their existing workshops independently, ensuring that their operational histories remain intact.
The integration brings Brand X’s facilities in Long Island City into the Pace Prints network, significantly bolstering the publisher’s New York footprint. This expansion coincides with preparations to open a new gallery and workshop in Los Angeles this fall. The new organization will be overseen by Pace’s president and CEO, Jacob Lewis, who described the move as making tremendous sense given the decades of prior cooperation between the two houses.
Lewis, who began his career at Pace Prints as a printshop intern in 2001, cited a shared passion for the medium as the driving force behind the merger. He emphasized that exchanging techniques and problem-solving approaches allows the combined entity to push artists further toward realizing their visions. His background includes working with master printers and artists such as Chuck Close and Jim Dine, experience he notes has stayed with him as he transitioned from the workshop to the gallery side of the business.
Pace Prints was founded in 1968 by Richard Solomon alongside Pace Gallery’s Arne Glimcher, quickly establishing itself with Lucas Samaras’s Book, a technically ambitious die-cut volume featuring eleven screenprints. The workshop, established by master printer Aldo Crommelynck, has since collaborated with prominent figures including George Condo, Louise Nevelson, Nina Chanel Abney, and Yoshitomo Nara. A current show of electric-hued monoprints by Gamaliel Rodríguez is on view at the gallery.
Lewis was appointed president of Pace Prints in 2019 and took ownership of the company last year. He noted that the deep belief in the artists represented by both organizations facilitates the business side of the partnership. The consolidation aims to propel printmaking into new territories, leveraging the combined resources and historical expertise of both institutions to support contemporary artistic production.
The Editors · September 18, 2026
